Best Teacher for the World Bangladesh: Ban Ki-moonUnited Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said, "Bangladesh is the best teacher for the whole world to adapt to climate change. There are few countries in the whole world to teach Bangladesh more efficiently.
He said this while inaugurating the Dhaka conference on 'Global Commission on Adaptation' at a hotel in the capital on Wednesday (July 10th). Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was the chief guest.
He arrived in Dhaka on a two-day tour to attend International Climate Change Conference and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands.
Ban Ki-moon said, we have come here (about climate change) to know about Bangladesh's experience and foresight. Because they are on the forefront of climate change, they are our best teachers. Country at the best teacher in the adaptation of the climate.
He said, even if the height of the sea level increased by one meter, 17% of the country's land would be submerged under the water by 2050. According to the IPCC, the sea level rise can be sinking if Dhaka is dipped. When the whole world is debating about climate change, it is adaptable to warmer, aggressive and inaccessible climate change. It's a fight to survive for them.
Marshall Islands President Hilda Heine, World Bank CEO Kristinaina Georgiiva also spoke on the occasion.
