The
Narendra Modi government, led by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party
(BJP), has taken up a plan to build a large 'captive camp' for Muslims
in Assam. Thousands of people are being arrested in Jammu and Kashmir by
the country's law and order.
Pramila Jayapal, the first Indian-born
member of the United States House of Representatives, expressed deep
concern over the creation of Muslim captives in Assam and mass arrests
in Kashmir.
In a tweet on social media Twitter, he said, "I am deeply
concerned over the news of the Indian government's arrest of two
thousand people in Kashmir." This is part of the Indian government's top
plan for building a large-scale captivity for Muslims in Assam and
Kashmir.
It is to be noted that about 1 lakh people from Assam were
excluded from the final draft list of Indian citizenship on July 5 last
year. Assam's National Register of Citizens (NRC) authorities released
the list. For the first time since last year, we have updated the list
of citizenships to identify illegal immigrants migrating from
neighboring Bangladesh to Assam.
NRC officials said it was just a
draft list. So now no one will be arrested or sent back to their home
country. Critics, however, say that the majority of those excluded from
the citizenship list are members of the province's minority Muslim
population and of Bangladeshi origin. Several ministers and MPs of the
ruling BJP-led government of the country have at various times
threatened to return these Bangladeshi Muslims from Assam to Bangladesh.
NRC
authorities say that 15 million applications were submitted for
obtaining Indian citizenship. Of these, 2 crore 5 lakh people have been
found on the list as a result of scrutiny. However, due to failure to
provide proper documents and information, 1 to 5 lakh Assamese have been
excluded from the list of Indian citizenship.
The minorities who
spent six years in India after migrating to India from Bangladesh,
Pakistan, Afghanistan; An Act was proposed by the Center to ensure that
they receive Indian citizenship. But other state governments, including
Assam, have opposed the law.
Narendra Modi had promised to amend the
citizenship law before the election of 20. After coming to power, the
ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government passed the Citizenship
Amendment Bill-23.
In a similar tweet, US Congressman and House
Intelligence Committee chairman Adam Schiff expressed deep concern over
the current situation in occupied Kashmir. He said on Twitter that
thousands of people in Kashmir are not being held without any kind of
complaint and given the opportunity to interact with the outside world.
This situation in Kashmir is very worrying.
Assad Majid Khan, the
Pakistani ambassador to Washington, has urged the world community to
take action against India for not allowing Kashmir a political
imprisonment. He also urged the Kashmiris in the face of serious
humanitarian crisis to pay attention to their plight.
Ammunition and
platelets have not been able to suppress the Kashmiris, according to a
fact-check report by the US-based Daily Washington Post. The people of
Kashmir continue to protest throughout the valley against Indian
occupation.
Referring to the Indian government's claim of 'Kashmir
calm', the Washington Post says that the BJP's claim is not consistent
with the eyewitness accounts and video footage there.
Thousands of
people protested in different parts of occupied Kashmir, according to a
video posted by the Washington Post. In some videos, thousands of people
have been protesting every day since the cancellation of special status
in Kashmir on August 5th. The video shows the Indian security forces
firing and shooting from a plategun targeting the protesters.
The
Washington Post says the Indian authorities have been forced to admit
allegations of firing and shooting of platoons over various videos
released on the recent situation in Kashmir in international media.
